iOS 8 requires over 5GB of free space to install, here’s what iPhone 5C 8GB users should do

Apple has released the new iOS 8 operating system for iPhones and iPads today,While many iPhone and iPad users were eagerly waiting to download the update, most were in for a shock when the slightly under 1GB update file requires up to 5.7GB of free space to install. This is a bummer, if you have an 8GB iPhone 5C or even a 16GB iPhone then you're likely to run into issues. Thankfully, there is a work around that doesn’t involve you choosing what data to delete from your device.

There's no easy fix to free up space to install ios 8 quickly, but you can use the iTunes update instead of downloading it right on your iPhone4S/5/5S/5c to avoid the huge space requirement. The iTunes method will still require free space, but not nearly as much as 5GB using the over-the-air upgrade method on the device. Before starting the update, remember to backup your iPhone or iPad to your PC or Mac with iTunes. So essentially you backup, update and then restore your device without losing any content.
